The Tearoom was opened on 13th June 2006 to continue the long history of tearooms in Birsay. A Miss Couper first opened a Tearoom in the village in the 1920's.

On an elevated location offering full views of Birsay Bay, our Tearoom is idyllically situated and offers a good range of Teas, Coffees (brewed by our trained Baristas), soft drinks, light lunch menu featuring our Salad Bar, scones, cakes, biscuits and ice cream. Our homebakes are all made in-house and other foods are sourced from Orkney producers wherever possible. We grow a range of salads for the Salad Bar on our own Market Garden, as well as some soft fruits for tasty seasonal treats (see specials board)

Brough Tide Times

The Brough of Birsay is a tidal island and can be accessed by crossing the causeway at low tide. Accessibility is usually around 2 hours either side of low tide, but this can vary according to weather, season and tide height Please take care and keep an eye on what is happening on the causeway. High and low tide varies each day and information on tides can be found at:

  Tide Times

Please note: select tide times for Stromness (no.280) from the list of Ports. This is only an approximation for the Brough times.
