Nelson's Market Gardens was established in 1982, starting with a range of outdoor vegetables.

In 1991 we took over the Birsay Tomato nursery and in 2006 added the Tearoom adjacent to the nursery.

We are primarily a Tomato nursery, supplying Orkney, through a local wholesaler, with a range of Tomatoes with real flavour.

A small range of other salad crops is grown for the Tearoom and (when possible) will be for sale in our small Farm Shop. We also grow early Strawberries which you can find exclusively in the Farm Shop. 

Our Tomato crop starts around the end of June each year and continues through to the end of October. Our early Strawberries are available from mid May through to early July. Other salad crops are available through the summer whenever quantities are sufficient.
